How Does DNS Work?
Domain name service (DNS) takes domain names and converts it to the server's numeric IP address.

Domain Name System, also known as, DNS, is how domain names work. Your server is given an IP address and the name uses DNS to direct traffic to the name to the correct IP address.

It’s kind of like looking up a name in the phone book, you can’t just put a name into the phone, you look up the name and it gives you the number to dial. Duh.
