## What it checks

12 data categories, in the order the extension shows them:

- **Page meta**: Title tag length, out of 60; Meta description length, out of 160; Preview of the Google result; Canonical, robots, Open Graph and Twitter Card.
- **Indexability**: Indexable or not, and why; Redirect chain and status code; X-Robots-Tag and response headers; Trace any other URL.
- **Hreflang**: Missing x-default or self-reference; Duplicate, malformed or relative tags; Return check on each hreflang alternate; Status code of each alternate.
- **Rendering**: Server HTML against the rendered page; Title, meta, headings and links compared; Static or JavaScript-rendered verdict; View as Googlebot, Bingbot or iPhone.
- **Structured data**: JSON-LD, Microdata and RDFa; Missing required and recommended fields; Rich results each item is eligible for; JSON-LD parse errors.
- **Core Web Vitals**: LCP, INP and CLS from your browser; Rated against Google’s thresholds; FCP and TTFB.
- **Headings**: H1, H2 and H3 at a glance; Missing or multiple H1 flagged; Full H1–H6 outline to copy or export; Headings highlighted on the page.
- **Links & images**: Internal and external link counts; Nofollow, UGC and sponsored links listed; Images missing alt text; Links and images exported as CSV.
- **Content**: Word, character and sentence counts; Flesch-Kincaid grade level; Flesch reading ease score; Top words and phrases.
- **Tech stack**: CMS or store platform; JavaScript framework; Analytics, marketing and chat tags; Cloudflare.
- **Technical**: Page load time; DOM size, scripts and stylesheets; Text-to-HTML ratio; Mixed content on HTTPS pages.
- **Link check**: Broken links, on request; Up to 300 links per check; Grouped by HTTP status; Broken links outlined on the page.

One click runs the page analysis. Indexability, the link check, hreflang return tags and the rendering comparison ask once for access to other sites, the first time you use them.

## Under the hood

- **A score, a grade and the issues**: One click scores the page from 0 to 100 and lists every problem it found by name, such as “Title too long” or “Missing H1”. The letter grade, A to F, sits on the extension’s toolbar icon, and four sub-scores, Meta, Content, Links and Tech, sit under the score.
- **Title, description and the Google preview**: Titles are counted against 30 to 60 characters and meta descriptions against 120 to 160, a little wider at the short end than the usual advice. Anything outside is flagged, next to a preview of how the result could read on Google.
- **Broken links, where they sit**: Link Check tests the links on the page when you ask, up to 300 at a time, without sending your cookies. Results are grouped by HTTP status, and client errors, server errors, timeouts and network failures count as broken. One click outlines the broken links in red on the page itself, and the list exports as CSV.
- **Indexability, from the response**: Indexability reads the HTTP response for the page you are on: each redirect hop and its status code, the X-Robots-Tag header, a canonical sent as a header, and the caching and content-type headers. It gives a plain verdict, indexable or not, with the reason: a noindex in the page or the header, an error status, or a canonical that points somewhere else. Trace another URL follows any address you type and shows where it lands.
- **Hreflang, in both directions**: Every hreflang tag on the page is checked for a missing x-default or self-reference, duplicates, malformed language codes, relative URLs and a protocol that differs from the page’s. When you ask, the extension fetches each alternate, up to 50, and confirms that it links back.
- **What JavaScript changed**: Rendering fetches the HTML the server sends and compares it with the page your browser built, field by field: title, meta description, canonical, robots, headings, links, images, JSON-LD blocks, word count and hreflang. It tells you whether the page is static HTML, hydrated with the same content, or rendered by JavaScript. View as reloads the tab with the user agent of Googlebot (desktop or smartphone), Bingbot or iPhone Safari.
- **Structured data, field by field**: The extension reads JSON-LD, Microdata and RDFa, and checks each item against the required and recommended properties for common types: Article, Product, LocalBusiness, Event, FAQPage and more. A local business with no phone number, or an offer with no price, is flagged by the field to add, and complete items show the rich results their required fields make them eligible for. JSON-LD that fails to parse is flagged with the error.
- **Core Web Vitals in your browser**: LCP, INP and CLS, plus FCP and TTFB, as your browser recorded them on the page you are on, each rated against Google’s thresholds. There is no separate speed test to run and no DevTools to open. They are reported beside the score, not counted in it.
- **On Google’s results**: On a Google results page the extension adds a toolbar: copy the organic results, export them as CSV with their snippets, related searches and People also ask, or copy the People also ask questions alone. A location setting reopens the same search as if from another US city or any place you type. With a free SEO Bandwagon account connected, a bar under each organic result shows what SEO Bandwagon knows about that domain.
- **Local citations, with a free account**: Connect a free SEO Bandwagon account and the Citations tab checks a directory listing against your business: it reads the name, address, phone number and website on the page and scores how closely each matches the business you saved. A built-in list of local directories marks the toolbar icon when you land on one, and Screenshot saves the whole listing as one image on your computer, as proof.
- **Exports and tools**: Headings, links, images, indexability, hreflang, rendering, structured data and link check results each export as CSV, and the whole analysis as JSON. The right-click menu opens the page in Search Console’s URL inspection, PageSpeed Insights, the Rich Results Test or the Wayback Machine, or opens its robots.txt or sitemap.xml. In a Search Console performance report, each query gets a link to its Google results, and comparing two date ranges puts the percent change beside each number.

## How it compares

Inspection extensions show a page's raw SEO data fast. SEO Bandwagon also
scores what it finds, so you leave with a grade and a list of issues beside
the data. Each comparison is dated and checked against the other extension's
own Chrome Web Store listing:

## Roadmap

What each release shipped, and what we are weighing next. Updated 2026-10-13.

### Next feature release: 1.8.0

The candidates, in no order. None has a date: the first one finished becomes the next feature release, and the list changes as the work does.

- **Several pages of Google in one go**: Google shows ten results a page and no longer offers more. Read the first several pages of a search together, each result with its overall position, for checking where a site ranks.
- **Search Console shortcuts for your account**: From the Queries tab, add a query to your rank tracker; from the Pages tab, send a page to your captures. Shown only with your account connected.
- **Keyword difficulty and volume on Google**: Difficulty and monthly search volume beside each result in the results overlay.
- **Citation fixes**: For a listing whose name, address or phone is wrong: the corrected details to copy, and a link to that directory’s edit page.
- **Undo for filed citations**: Take back a citation you filed by mistake.
- **Campaign progress**: Where each running citation campaign is in its four steps, in the side panel.

### Smaller fixes queued

- The side panel’s Page checks button opens the page checks.
- On a Google results page, the popup says how many results it read.
- Export file names that carry the page and the time, so one export never replaces another.
- An approximate overall position for each result in the Google results export.
- Full-page proof that keeps going when the popup closes, with smaller image files.
- A keyboard shortcut for Check NAP.
- Real directory icons in the Citations header.
- The NAP result scrolls into view when a check finishes.
- Clearer words when you are signed out, and on empty screens.

### Not planned

- **Link-authority scores**: They need a private index of the web’s links, which a free extension cannot carry. That effort goes into Core Web Vitals, citations and the score instead.
- **Third-party code**: The extension ships as plain files: no bundler and no outside packages.

### Shipped

- **1.7.6** (merged 2026-10-13, not on the Chrome Web Store yet): A link check keeps running when the popup closes or you switch tabs, and reopening the popup shows its progress or its results. Chrome Web Store links read “Can’t check” instead of broken, since Chrome doesn’t let extensions open them, and a check runs more of its requests at once.
- **1.7.5** (merged 2026-10-13, not on the Chrome Web Store yet): The Google results overlay reads every result again: results Google links through its own redirects, and Google’s own sites such as the Chrome Web Store, which it used to skip, so positions are right. Copy results and Copy PAA put the text on the clipboard again, and say so when a page has nothing to copy. Full-page proof no longer stops on a page that shifts slightly while it scrolls.
- **1.7.4** (merged 2026-10-09, not on the Chrome Web Store yet): A first install opens a welcome page, and removing the extension opens a one-question survey. Links from the extension to seobandwagon.com say which part of the extension they came from.
- **1.7.3** (merged 2026-10-07, not on the Chrome Web Store yet): The store listing says the extension lists the issues it finds, as the popup does, rather than offering fixes.
- **1.7.2** (merged 2026-10-06, not on the Chrome Web Store yet): A “Rate us” link in the popup footer and on the options page. Full-page proof shows its progress while it builds the image, cancels when asked, and stops with a message if the page stops responding.
- **1.7.1** (merged 2026-10-01): Full-page proof no longer repeats cookie banners down the image, or draws a scrollbar strip at the edge of each frame.
- **1.7.0** (merged 2026-10-01): Full-page proof screenshots: the Citations tab scrolls the page and stitches it into one image, saved to your computer. “Visible area only” keeps the one-screen capture.
- **1.6.1** (merged 2026-09-24): The first release submitted to the Chrome Web Store since 1.2.0, carrying everything in 1.6.0. Search Console comparisons show a percent-change badge and nothing more, its row icons stay on the Queries tab, and the Google results export carries each result’s description, date, rating and breadcrumb.
- **1.6.0** (merged 2026-09-06): Broken-link check; indexability (redirect chain, headers, X-Robots-Tag and a verdict); hreflang with return-tag checks; raw HTML against the rendered page, with a user-agent switcher; structured data validation for JSON-LD, Microdata and RDFa; the Google results overlay with export and a location simulator; a right-click tools menu; CSV exports for headings, images and links; Night, Day and Auto appearance; and the page-checks side panel.
- **1.5.2** (merged 2026-09-06): Search Console row icons only on the Queries tab, and percent change when a report compares two date ranges.
- **1.5.1** (merged 2026-09-05): Search Console row actions: open a query in Google, or in a private window.
- **1.5.0** (merged 2026-09-03): Connects to your SEO Bandwagon account: captures sync, citations and link building work from the side panel, and the dashboard connects the extension in one click. Fewer permissions than before.

A fix moves the last digit of the version; a new feature moves the middle one. The Chrome Web Store serves 1.7.1.

## Which SEO analyzer is best for beginners?

One that tells you what it found wrong. A beginner needs a list of problems in plain words, not a list of tags to decode.

That is what this extension is built for: it scores a page out of 100, grades it from A to F and names each problem it found, such as a title that runs too long or a missing H1, next to the same raw data the inspection extensions show. It is free and needs no account.

## Does Google have a free SEO tool?

Yes. Search Console is Google's free tool for seeing how your site performs in Google Search, and PageSpeed Insights measures how fast a page loads.

They work well with the extension: Search Console for how Google sees the whole site, the extension for checking each page as you work on it, from its title and headings to its links, indexability and structured data. The extension's right-click menu opens the page you are on in either one.

## What is the difference between the extension and the free SEO audit?

The extension checks the page you are looking at, in your browser, with no account. The audit scans your site from our servers and needs a free sign-in.

The audit runs 10 automated checks, among them backlinks and page speed measured from outside your browser, and the free plan allows 10 scans a day. Use the extension on each page as you edit it, and the audit to see where the site stands.

## More questions

### What is the best SEO extension for Chrome?

It depends on what you want from it. Detailed SEO Extension and SEO META in 1 CLICK put a page’s raw SEO data in front of you fast: titles, headings, meta tags. SEO Bandwagon shows the same kind of data and adds a verdict, a score out of 100, a letter grade and the list of issues it found, along with link, indexability, hreflang and structured data checks.

### How do I check a page's SEO in Chrome?

Install the SEO Bandwagon extension from the Chrome Web Store, open any web page, and click the extension icon (or press Cmd+Shift+S on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows). You'll see a score out of 100 and the issues it found, then sections for page meta, indexability, structured data, Core Web Vitals, headings, links and images, content and more. The letter grade shows on the extension's icon.

### Is the extension really free?

Yes. There is no trial period and no upsell to see your results, and every check on the page runs without an account. The Citations tab and the stats under Google results use a free SEO Bandwagon account. If you want more than single-page checks, the site audit is free too, with a free account.

### Do I need an account?

No. Every check on the page runs without signing in, and your analyses are kept on your device. Connecting a free SEO Bandwagon account is optional: it syncs your analyses to your dashboard, which a setting turns off, and turns on the Citations tab and the stats under Google results.

### Does it work on any website?

It analyzes any page you can open in Chrome: your site, a competitor's site, a staging environment, a client prospect. It reads the rendered page in your browser, so it sees what you see, including content JavaScript added, and the Rendering check shows what the server sent before JavaScript ran. Like all extensions, it can't run on Chrome's internal pages or the Chrome Web Store itself.

### How is the SEO score calculated?

It starts at 100 and takes points off for what it finds: a missing, short or long title or meta description, a missing or repeated H1, images without alt text, no canonical URL, no JSON-LD structured data, no Open Graph title, fewer than 600 words, fewer than three internal links, a very large DOM and hard-to-read text. Bigger problems cost more, so a missing title costs more than a long one. 90 and above is an A, 80 a B, 70 a C, 60 a D and anything lower an F. Core Web Vitals and the link, indexability and hreflang checks are reported beside the score, not counted in it.
